State Representative Renée Kosel, of New Lenox, Illinois, is currently serving her sixth term in the Illinois General Assembly. As a former teacher and Board of Education member, Rep. Kosel has proven to be an ardent voice for education in the state legislature since she took office in 1997. She has also been a strong supporter of less taxes, free enterprise, quality healthcare, family values, ethics reform and open space, as evidenced by several legislative awards from ARC, Illinois Home Health Care Council, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Farm Bureau, the Employment Law Council and the South Suburban Park & Recreation, to name only a few. In addition to her national and statewide awards, Representative Kosel was recognized by her House Republican colleagues when she was elected as Assistant House Republican Leader in 2005 and re-elected in 2007.

Rep. Kosel currently serves on the following House Committees: Elementary & Secondary Education, International Trade & Commerce, Least Cost Power Procurement (Republican spokesperson), Registration & Regulation, Transportation & Motor Vehicles, Housing and Urban Development and DCFS Oversight committees. She also serves on the State’s Health Planning Reform Task Force, is the state Co-chair of the American Legislative Exchange Council and is a member of the National Conference of State Legislators, Conference of Women Legislators, Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine Dean’s Advisory Board and the Illinois State Rifle Association. On the local level, Rep. Kosel serves on the University of St. Francis President's Board of Advisors. She also serves as the current president of the Advocate Christ Medical Center Governing Board, as well as a member of the Advocate Christ Cancer Institute Foundation Board. She is a member of several local Chambers of Commerce, the New Lenox Lions Club and Rotary and the Mokena Woman’s Club.

An alumna of Western Illinois University (B.S. Education), Rep. Kosel previously taught in the Chicago Public Schools, was a substitute teacher for New Lenox School District 122 and served as a member and past president of the Lincoln-Way 210 Board of Education for 13 years before becoming a state legislator.

Representative Kosel and her husband Dr. Alfred Kosel, a practicing dentist in Tinley Park, IL, reside in New Lenox, and enjoy spending time with their three grown children, their spouses and nine grandchildren.
